Biomedical Innovation District

SUPERSPACE supported the Woods Bagot Sydney studio’s proposal for Camperdown Biomedical Precinct in Sydney, Australia. Our work provided the evidence to support the proposed rezoning of the site area to become a biomedical precinct, as well as supporting the site design itself, through a series of studies:

Innovation Precinct Benchmarks

Benchmarking of successful biomedical innovation precincts worldwide across criteria including

  • Walkability
  • Access to public transport
  • Land-use diversity
  • Amenity provision
  • Talent pool (workforce demographics)

The Camperdown site and context were then analysed to compare with these benchmarks.

Innovation Network Integration

Analysis of the existing biomedical innovation district, and how the site would integrate into this network. Scientific grant data was used to identify the activity of key academic and commercial research institutes in the area.

Evidence-based Placemaking

Our placemaking toolkit was applied to support decision making for the urban design through network and visual integration analysis.
